Sligo stroll into semis

PORTADOWN 0
SLIGO ROVERS 2
Quarter-final 2nd leg(Sligo win 5-0 on aggregate)

Sligo Rovers secured a semi-final meeting against champions Shamrock Rovers by completing a demolition of Portadown.

Already 3-0 up from the first leg at the Showgrounds, Rovers confirmed their progress with goals by teenager Daryl Horgan and the experienced Joseph Ndo.

Sligo opened the scoring five minutes before half-time when Horgan, picked out by a simple pass from John Andrews, was generously given space in the box to shoot past David Miskelly.

Portadown, resting most of their first-choice team before Saturday's Irish Cup final against Crusaders, created just one moment of real danger in the first half, with striker Richard Lecky heading just wide from a long punt forward.

Sligo passed the ball with ease in the second half but urgency was lacking as they were so far ahead.

They did score a second in the 76th minute when substitute Ndo curled a shot from the edge of the box beyond the reach of Miskelly.

Portadown -- Miskelly, Mackle, Ramsey, Breen (Redman 74), Craig, Teggart, Haire, Boyle, Cawley (McCullough 68), Braniff (Tipton 68), Lecky.

Sligo Rovers -- Kelly, Doyle, Kirby, Davoren, Greene, Peers, Foran, Ventre, Russell (Ndo 70), Blinkhorn (McGoldrick 64), Horgan (Dillon 78).

Ref -- R Crangle (Belfast).
