Sligo Rovers to host Shamrock Rovers in FAI Cup semi-final
Sligo Rovers will take on Shamrock Rovers will face-off in the pick of this season's FAI Cup semi-final after they were drawn together this evening.
Rafael Cretaro's beautifully improvised effort saw Sligo beat holders Derry City yesterday at the Showgrounds while Trevor Croly's Shamrock Rovers knocked out Airtricity League leaders St Patrick's Athletic last Friday.
The draw which took place on RTE's MNS this evening pitted the winners of this evening's replay between Drogheda United and Finn Harps with Stephen Kenny's Dundalk in the other semi.
Drogheda beat Finn Harps 2-0 tonight to set up a Louth derby with second half goals from Declan O'Brien and an injury time effort from David Cassidy.
Both ties will take place on Sunday October 6 in a double-header that will be televised on RTE.
Sligo will have home advantage in their semi-final with Dundalk having to travel to face either the Drogs or Finn Harps.
Sligo Rovers manager Ian Baraclough reacted to the draw by saying: "It is a mouth-watering tie. We knew before the draw that there was no easy game and no matter which team we faced, it would be a difficult prospect.
"But a home draw is something we wanted and it’s a game to really look forward to.
"It is also a tie that both sets of fans will be excited about. There will be huge interest and the incentive is there for everybody to see. It is a chance to reach a cup final at the Aviva Stadium and we will be doing all we can to get there.
"The games between the sides have been very close this season. It will be tight and it may take a moment of brilliant to divide the teams."
