Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has taken to Twitter to urge Jurgen Klopp and the club to sign a left back.

Liverpool greats Steve McManaman and Michael Owen were among those to rip into Reds full-back Alberto Moreno, after his mistakes was critical in allowing Sevilla to lift the Europa League trophy for a third successive season in Basel.

And Carragher let his feeling be known with an x-rated message to the Liverpool hierarchy.

He tweeted: Jurgen, transfer committee, anyone sign a f*****g left back." The tweet has since been deleted with the former defender adding: "Sevilla deserved their win, LFC very poor 2nd half."

A dominant first half display from Liverpool allowed Jurgen Klopp’s side to establish a deserved 1-0 half-time advantage that could and should have been even wider, yet a moment of sloppiness from Moreno allowed Sevilla’s Kevin Gameiro to equalise 17 seconds after the break and the tide of the game turned in an instant

Contentious refereeing decisions may have riled the Premier League side, yet they could have no excuses with a final 3-1 scoreline that handed the Spanish side a deserved victory the place in next season’s Champions League that Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side so desperately wanted.

Yet McManaman pulled few punches as he ripped into the error strewn Moreno, who was exposed as a weak link once Sevilla took control of the game.

“Just 17 seconds into the second half and it was a real lack of judgement and concentration from Alberto Moreno, who had an awful second half,” McManaman told BT Sport.

“He wants to go forward, but he is a left back. His principle job is get the ball and defend well. Communicate, do what you are meant to do.

“Simon Mignolet got him out of jail a couple of times, but he had a horrible 45 minutes and once they equalised, the game literally just switched.

“Liverpool look lethargic in the second half and ran out of legs, which is so disappointing, but Sevilla deserve it, no doubt about that. To win the Europa League three times in a row is a fantastic achievement.”

Liverpool goal scoring great Michael Owen was equally critical of Moreno, with the Spaniard singled out for stinging criticism.

“You cannot afford to carry any passengers in this kind of game and Moreno cost Liverpool in the end,” said Owen. “Let’s not dress it up, Moreno cost Liverpool in the end.

“At this level, against Europe’s top sides, you won’t get away with it and Moreno made three or four big mistakes in the second half.”
