SLIGO ROVERS midfielder Richie Ryan was named the PFAI Player of the Year on Saturday night.

The Tipperary native, who will miss Sunday's FAI Ford Cup final through suspension, beat off competition from 2009 winner Gary Twigg, Brian Shelley, Padraig Amond, Alan Mannus and Shaun Williams for the prized gong.

There was some consolation for Williams as the 24-year-old Sporting Fingal captain picked up the Young Player of the Year award. Cork City striker Graham Cummins was named First Division Player of the Year.
