Queen's aiming for crown
Daire Rooney's strike ensured hosts Queen's University Belfast stunned holders UCC with a 4-3 victory to secure a first Collingwood Cup final appearance since 1995.
The home side face UCD in today's decider at the Queen's University Sports Campus (2.30) following their 2-0 win over DCU.
Eamon Fyfe, scorer of a hat-trick in the quarter-final win over Trinity College, touched home the opener in a goalmouth scramble after UCC 'keeper Cathal O'Hanlon had dropped a cross.
Straight from the restart Queen's gained possession and forced a corner that Matt Hughes coolly headed past O'Hanlon.
UCC regained their control and struck back to draw level with goals from Matthew McKevitt and Garan Manley.
That setback only spurred the home side on and they had regained the lead to go in at the by the break leading 4-2 with Fyfe netting his second from a Hughes cross and Daire Rooney heading in the fourth at the back post from Fyfe's fine delivery.
Substitute Dan Dalton reduced the arrears early in the second half before Queen's managed to hold out for a famous victory.
There was nothing between the two great Dublin rivals in the other semi-final until UCD broke the deadlock just over the hour mark.
Skipper Gary O'Neill curled in a dangerous corner from the left, Georgie Kelly managed to flick it on and left-back Liam Scales applied the final touch to head it past DCU 'keeper Shane Fagan.
UCD made sure of their place in the final after 71 minutes when a sweeping move saw Daire O'Connor cross from the back line. Timmy Molloy got a touch and Kelly, coming in at the far post, headed home.
