Republic of Ireland midfielder Wes Hoolahan warmed up for the new season by scoring a stunning goal for Norwich in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday evening.

Hoolahan is getting back into club mode following his heroics with Ireland at Euro 2016 last month, with his famous strike against Sweden at the Stade de France one of the highlights of Ireland’s run to the last-16 of the competition.

Hoolahan and his Norwich team are preparing for a return to life in the Championship division after their relegation from the Premier League last May and the veteran midfielder looks certain to have a big role to play as Alex Neil’s side look to bounce straight back into the top flight.

If this sumptuous strike against Coventry at Carrow Road is any gauge, Wesso should be a class apart from most of his rivals this season, in what is certain to a highly competitive Championship division that will also feature high profile rivals Newcastle and Aston Villa.

Norwich ended up winning the friendly game 3-0, with this strike from Hoolahan the highlight of the evening.
