Kevin Mirallas has been punished for an apparent breach of team discipline after he took a penalty off regular taker Leighton Baines and then failed to convert it.
Former Toffees defender Joleon Lescott gifted Everton with the chance to go ahead when he handled in the area but the Belgian winger pulled his shot wide of the post.
Mirallas failed to emerge for the second half and was replaced by Bryan Oveido with the game still scoreless. There have been reports that he and Steven Naismith had to be separated in the dressing-room at the interval.
Gary Neville was not impressed by Mirallas' conduct surrounding the penalty on Monday Night Soccer. View below:
“You can punch someone or break someone’s leg but to go against team orders is the worst kind of offence,” Neville said.
