The return of Jonas Gutierrez to Newcastle United following his battle with testicular cancer was one of the most uplifting sport stories of 2014 and he has continued his rehab by netting his first goal since he got the all-clear.
Over 10 months since his last senior appearance, Magpies midfielder Jonas Gutierrez continued his comeback from testicular cancer in spectacular style.
Captaining his club’s under-21 side against their counterparts from Bolton Wanderers, Gutierrez opened the scoring after 11 minutes with a screamer into the top corner from 20 yards.
The Argentine was given the all-clear in November, after undergoing chemotherapy in his homeland, and made his return to football last month.
After the match he said: "The most important thing is to get fit and play games.
"Of course, you always want to win, but for me it’s about trying to get fit and do the best in training and give 100 per cent.
"It’s always nice waking up in the morning and knowing I have to train. With the chemotherapy and the treatment I wasn’t allowed to do it.
"I missed it a lot, and I enjoy it more than ever."
