Manchester United's new £25m signing Memphis Depay as thanked PSV for showing faith in him and immediately targeted trophies at Old Trafford.

United stolen a march on their rivals by signing Depay from the Dutch side after a ‘secret’ trip to England last month. Depay arrived at Manchester airport before venturing to hold talks over a transfer with United officials.

The Dutch international took to Twitter to thank his current employers and set his sights on silverware at Old Traffod.

"I’m extremely grateful towards @PSV, all the fans, @UnderArmour and @SEG_Football for believing in me," he posted on his Twitter account.

"Now it's time to set my goals again on winning trophies with @ManUtd."

Depay became one of the most sought-after players in Europe following an excellent season with the Dutch champions.

Paris St Germain and Liverpool were said to be interested in the Holland forward, but PSV and United confirmed on Thursday that the 21-year-old had agreed to move to Old Trafford.

It is understood United have paid £25million for Depay's signature.

United tweeted: "#mufc has reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven & Memphis Depay for the player's transfer, subject to a medical.

"Pending the successful completion of the medical, the deal will go through once the transfer window opens in June."

The Dutch club also confirmed a deal had been struck for the player. They said in a statement on their website: "PSV and Manchester United have reached an agreement for the transfer of Memphis to the English club."

Depay is this season's top scorer in the Eredivisie with 21 goals.

He was a regular for Holland under Louis van Gaal, who left his post with the national side to become United manager last summer.

PSV wished their star man all the best for the future.

"We are very proud of this upcoming transfer, which came in a huge momentum," PSV's sporting director Marcel Brands told the Dutch club's official website.

"Memphis has gone through all the teams of the PSV youth academy and has played an important part in the national title this year.

"He's a wonderful exponent of our training and will make a nice transition to a magnificent club in a beautiful competition.

"We obviously lose a fantastic player, which is of great value to the team. But PSV grants him this wonderful step."

Depay's most effective position is on the left side of a front three, although he can also operate as a central striker.

Depay joined PSV's youth team in 2006 and rose through the ranks before graduating to the first team.

After signing his first professional contract in 2012, he made his breakthrough during the 2013-14 season when PSV finished fourth in the Dutch league.

This season has been by far his best at the club. The 21-year-old's goals helped PSV win their first title in seven years, which they wrapped up with three matches to spare.
