Leicester City secured a significant coup with the arrival of Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans, in a boost for beleaguered manager Claude Puel.

Tielemans, 21, has joined on loan for the rest of the season with £22m (€24m) midfielder Adrien Silva moving to the Ligue 1 strugglers in what was effectively a straight swap.

A Belgium international, Tielemans has been one of Europe's most highly-regarded young talents for some time and could be named in Puel's squad for Sunday's home game against Manchester United.

He said: "The Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world and when I was young, I always watched Premier League games.

"I didn't know that much about Leicester before their championship win in 2016.

"I knew recently there was some dramatic events, but I know the club is really good inside."

Silva's move to Monaco comes after a nightmarish spell at the King Power Stadium. The deal available was always a loan swap as Monaco were reluctant to offload Tielemans permanently.

A Portugal international, Silva was the marquee signing of the 2017 summer window but his transfer was held up until January last year because of an infamous delay when the paperwork was received 14 seconds late.

He has since been frozen out by Puel, making only one Premier League start this season and is now surplus to requirements, despite being a key player for the Portugal national team.
