Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has backed Manchester United to win this season’s Europa League, after describing Jose Mourinho’s side as ‘truly a good team’.
Klopp was less than complimentary about Mourinho’s negative tactics as his United side ground out a 0-0 draw against his Liverpool team back in October as he hinted they relied on long balls after a 1-1 draw between the two teams at Old Trafford in January.
Yet in an interview with Sport1, Klopp is backing United to get past Anderlecht in the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday before navigating a route through to the final in Sweden next month.
“Manchester United have a tremendously well-assembled squad,” stated Liverpool boss.
“You can tell from that just how much quality they possess from the outset. United have a mix of experience, pace and quality. They are truly a good team.
“They are very likely to reach the Europa League final and to my mind they are favourites to win the Europa League.”
United are currently fighting to qualify for next season’s Champions League by securing a top four finish in the Premier League, but Mourinho has admitted that his best hope of plotting a route into Europe’s elite competition may be via winning the Europa League.
His side will head into Thursday’s clash with Anderlecht with the tie standing at 1-1 from the first leg and the bookies agree with Klopp as they make United favourites to win the Europa League.
