Sunderland's Jermain Defoe scored twice from the spot against Liverpool

According to Sky Sports News, Jermaine Defoe's boyhood club are keen to bring the veteran striker back to east London.

The 34-year-old has scored 11 goals in 21 appearances for David Moyes' side this season as they attempt to come out on top in a relegation dogfight for the fifth season running.

David Moyes is desperate to retain Defoe's services.

If they fail to land Defoe, the Hammers are said to be interested in taking Republic of Ireland striker Shane Long to London.

The 29-year-old is also being tracked by former club West Bromwich Albion.
