Sunderland appoint Poyet as new boss to succeed Di Canio
Gus Poyet has been named as the new Sunderland manager and charged with the task of guiding the club to Premier League survival by owner Ellis Short.
Poyet has been chosen to succeed Paolo Di Canio after a two-week selection process and will be officially unveiled at the Stadium of Light later on Tuesday.
The former Brighton manager held further talks with Short and director of football Roberto De Fanti over the weekend and has agreed a three-year contract
Poyet would become the sixth man to have held the post on a permanent basis inside the last five years, and Short will hope he can bring the kind of long-term stability which has eluded his most recent predecessors.
