Harry Redknapp will try to sign Didier Drogba this summer after identifying the Chelsea forward as a player who could transform Tottenham into genuine Premier League title contenders.
Drogba's future at Stamford Bridge is under scrutiny following the arrival of Fernando Torres from Liverpool, but Redknapp remains convinced that the 33-year-old Ivorian has at least two more seasons at the highest level.
Spurs were desperate to buy a new striker in January but failed with bids in excess of £30m for both Sergio Aguero and Giuseppe Rossi.
Redknapp wants to add proven experience as well as goals to his team and believes that Drogba could complement his young squad perfectly.
He accepts that he must work within a strict budget this summer, but has told Spurs chairman Daniel Levy that the club could win the title if they keep their best players this summer and make "two or three" carefully selected additions.
Between them, Spurs strikers Peter Crouch, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Jermain Defoe have contributed just 13 Premier League goals all season.
Despite having his season having been interrupted by contracting malaria, Drogba has scored 13 times for Chelsea. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
