Chelsea's Gary Cahill and Oscar celebrate after their victory over Liverpool

Christmas has come early for those of you who backed Chelsea to win the Premier League with Paddy Power – the betting giants have announced they are already paying out on Jose Mourinho’s men.

November has not yet passed but Mr Power and Co will fork out over €500,000 to lucky punters who bet on the Blues.

With Mourinho’s men unbeaten and looking unstoppable, you could argue that it’s a shrewd move by the bookie, who today confirmed:

•  A huge six figure sum paid out to savvy Chelsea punters

•  €20k is largest bet placed at 2/5 returning €26k to one lucky punter

•  44 punters have placed €1,000 or more on Chelsea to win and are set to reap the rewards

•  Over a third of the Premier League outright betting stakes have gone on Chelsea to win – almost twice as much vs. any other team

In 2003, a similar stunt came back to bite them when Paddy Power paid out on Arsenal, who were 12 points clear, to win the league but a Man United fightback saw them stung.

In 2003 Paddy coughed up twice on the title after paying out early on an Arsenal side who had a 12 point lead but then handed the silverware to Manchester United days before the season was out. Gulp.

“This is one early seasonal treat the punters should love. We now just have to hope that all Jose’s Christmases really do come at once next May!” said the man himself, Paddy.
