'My wide players are obvious choices' - Sky pundit snubs Mohamed Salah in Team of the Season selection
Picking a Team of the Season at this stage of the campaign is a pretty futile exercise given we haven't even reached the halfway stage of the Premier League - but there are a few players who simply must be included.
For table-topping Man City, Kevin de Bruyne has orchestrated absolutely everything while at the other end of the pitch, David de Gea has been spectacular in goals for Man United.
Outside of the top two, the standout player has undoubtedly been Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian winger signed by Liverpool last summer.
Salah is currently the Premier League top scorer after netting 14 goals in his first 18 league games.
Sky Sports asked some of their pundits to pick their Team of the Season so far, with Matt Le Tissier, Charlie Nicholas, Paul Merson and Phil Thompson giving it a go.
The three aforementioned players were included in all four teams - except Salah, who was strangely left out of Merson's XI.
In his explanation, he said that his choices, Man City's Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane, were 'obvious choices'.
"My wide players are obvious choices again in Sane and Sterling," he said.
"When you look at how much Sterling has improved under Guardiola it is incredible, especially when you compare to how little Theo Walcott has developed at Arsenal from a similar young talent."
This was Paul Merson's full team:
De Gea; Walker, Tarkowski, Mee, Alonso; De Bruyne, Fernandinho; Sane, Silva, Sterling; Kane
