Michael Owen Stoke deal confirmed

Michael Owen has been cleared to play for new club Stoke following a decision from the Premier League to approve his inclusion in the Potters' 25-man squad.

The former England striker was a free agent after his release from Manchester United at the end of last season and has agreed a one-year pay-as-you-play deal at the Britannia Stadium.

Adam Johnson has withdrawn from the England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine because of a thigh injury.

Johnson is the second player to pull out of Roy Hodgson's party after striker Andy Carroll was ruled out with a hamstring injury for the next six weeks.

Florent Malouda has revealed he has been banished from training with the Chelsea first team for what remains of his Stamford Bridge career.

Winger Malouda took to Twitter to announce he was to keep fit with the club's youth side, posting a picture of the headquarters of their U-21 squad, along with the message: "This is where I'll train for my last season with the blues !!!"

Sydney FC have confirmed the most high-profile signing in their history by announcing the capture of Alessandro del Piero.
