Mauricio Pochettino's comments on radio will cause huge concern for Tottenham and put Man United on red alert
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has offered up some surprising comments that suggest he is keen to take over at French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Pochettino has been one of the stars of this Premier League season as he has led Spurs through their most credible title challenge for more than three decades, yet his quotes on French radio station RMC will set alarm bells ringing for Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
Pochettino - who is believed to have admirers among Manchester United’s hierarcy - made his mark as a player during a spell with PSG and now he has suggested a return as coach could be part of his plans.
“I’ve always said that I would be pleased to join a great club like PSG,” Pochettino told French radio station RMC. “Come to Paris? I hope so. It is true that it would please me. It’s part of my dreams. I try to watch all their matches, especially in the Champions League.
“The [French] championship is not very attractive because PSG is far from the other teams but I look a lot because it is a major source of players. There is talent so I have to follow Ligue 1.”
While Pochettino looks unlikely to leave Tottenham this summer, his interest in the PSG job will do little to ease the mood of the club’s current head coach Laurent Blanc, who was also linked with a move to Manchester United earlier this week.
Pochettino also hinted that he may be raiding the French market to sign a striker this summer, with Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi among his targets.
“We are looking for a striker this summer, that’s clear,” he added. “Michy’s a young player who has a lot of talent. He is on the list of many clubs.
“We have quite a few people who have given us information about him. He has good potential. We’ll see. We have other players in our sights too.”
