Manchester United are not interested in signing Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, despite reports that the Old Trafford giants are lining up a bid to scupper Chelsea’s efforts to sign the Frenchman.

Bakayoko is widely expected to join Chelsea in the coming days, with the Stamford Bridge club keen to make some high profile signings after they lost out to United in the race to sign striker Romelu Lukaku.

Yet it appears United will not be a rival to Chelsea in the bid to sign Bakayoko, with widespread reports confirming they are not in the mix to sign the 22-year-old Frenchman.

Bakayoko had been expected to move to Chelsea last month, but a minor knee injury held up the move as there was some concern that an operation may be required to resolve the problem.

Yet it appears that issue has not been resolved, with a fee in the region of £35m being mentioned as Chelsea look to sign a player who will play alongside N’Golo Kante in their midfield next season.

Meanwhile, United manager Jose Mourinho has again been heavily linked with a move to try and prise England midfielder Eric Dier away from Tottenham in recent day, even though Spurs have made it clear that they have no intention of selling any of their star names this summer.

United are reported to be ready to make an offer in excess of £40m for Dier in a bid to test Tottenham’s resolve, with their eagerness to find a long term replacement for the veteran Michael Carrick one of Mourinho’s chief targets.

The lavish price tag being placed on Dier is further evidence of the crazy prices being quoted for players this summer, with England’s top flight clubs not under pressure to sell their star names with the guarantee of a huge cash windfall of around £140m each next season from the Premier League’s lavish broadcasting deal.
