Wayne Rooney remained absent as Manchester United travelled to Belgium for the Europa League quarter-final first leg at Anderlecht.

The 31-year-old continues to struggle with ankle pain and back-up goalkeeper Sergio Romero is set to start in goal again, despite David De Gea travelling to Belgium having missed the trip to Sunderland with what Jose Mourinho called a "little problem".

Juan Mata, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling remain long-term absentees, but Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young trained on the eve of the game after recent injury complaints.

Provisional squad: De Gea, Romero, Pereira, Valencia, Blind, Darmian, Shaw, Rojo, Tuanzebe, Fosu-Mensah, Bailly, Mkhitaryan, Carrick, Herrera, Young, Lingard, Pogba, Fellaini, Martial, Rashford, Ibrahimovic.
