The signing Manchester United need to make immediately isn't Jadon Sancho, it's Mauricio Pochettino. Or Massimiliano Allegri or Julian Nagelsmann or even Erik ten Hag. Anyone but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Yesterday's humiliation against Spurs will see yet more focus on the failures of Ed Woodward, the club board and some of the team's senior players. But the manager, with whom the buck normally stops in most clubs, will remain largely exempt from criticism.
