Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has urged his former club to sign Arsenal attacking star Alexis Sanchez this summer.

Amid widespread rumours that Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez will be United’s first big signing of the summer as deal to capture the Colombian edges closer, Giggs has urged manager Jose Mourinho to add another South American to his squad with the signing of Sanchez.

The Chile attacking star has confirmed he will make a decision over his Arsenal future at the end of the season, after he was strongly linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Chelsea.

Yet Giggs believes Sanchez could be the perfect fit for United, with his Premier League experience adding to his appeal.

“He’s a brilliant player,” Giggs told Premier League Productions as he spoke about Sanchez. ”His work rate, the effect he has on his team-mates, a winner.

“Jose Mourinho bought Zlatan Ibrahimovic because he is a winner. He’d won everywhere he’d gone. Not only the effect on the pitch but off the pitch as well.

“You can just feel that Sanchez would give his team-mates a lift.”

United were successful in prising Robin van Persie away from Arsenal in 2012, with the Dutchman playing a crucial role in the club’s Premier League title success in what proved to be Alex Ferguson’s final year at the club and Giggs believes Sanchez could have a similar impact.

“When we bought Van Persie you’re buying a ready-made superstar and everyone was like ‘Van Persie scores 25 goals a season. What a brilliant buy’,” added Giggs. “It gives not only the fans a lift, but the players as well.”
