Romelu Lukaku has only been a Manchester United player for 10 days but he insists Jose Mourinho has already made him a better player.

The Belgian, who joined from Everton for an initial £75m this month, made his first start for the club on Monday against Real Salt Lake after making his debut from the bench on the weekend against LA Galaxy.

He scored his first goal for the club in that game, which proved to be the winner at the Rio Tinto Stadium, but was given a message on the touchline by Mourinho only moments before.

When questioned about what was said, the 24-year-old said: “He knows what I can bring to the team and he’s someone who is pushing me.

“I push myself too but he makes me a better player. I think I learned a lot from him in the last week and I’m glad I can work with him.

“I’m happy for my goal. There is still a lot of work to do; as a team we know we need to be much better. But I’m glad I’m here because you really see it’s a big club and that was the challenge I wanted.”
