Rio Ferdinand as fuelled speculation that Manchester United are planning to bring defender Patrice Evra back to Old Trafford in the January transfer window.
Ferdinand and Evra were part of a strong United defence that won a host of major honours under the guidance of manager Alex Ferguson, before the French full-back moved to Juventus in the summer of 2014.
Yet Ferdinand hightlighted the rumours suggesting Evra may be making a return to United at the age of 35, as he posted this message on Instagram.
Ferdinand suggested his source for this information was social media, which is never the most reliable route to uncover a story.
Yet the return of an Old Trafford favourite would make sense for United in the short-term, with boss Jose Mourinho seemingly less than convinced that Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian are equipped to fill the full-back role Evra made his own during his eight-year stay at United.
Evra won five Premier League titles and the Champions League during his time with United and has made his mark in Serie A with Juventus over the last couple of years.
Pep Guardiola is willing to head into the second half of the season using the same suspect Manchester City defence, with the club likely to wait until the summer before moving for Atletico Madrid’s £20m centre half Lucas Hernandez.
