Manchester United are edging closer to a deal to sign Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata, according to the latest reports emerging from Spain.

United have been strongly linked with a £70m move to sign Spanish striker Morata in recent months, with some reports suggesting a deal was close to being announced earlier this month.

Yet Morata’s wedding to model Alice Campello last weekend halted any progress on the move, with the Real Madrid Presidential elections earlier this week another hurdle that needed to be over come.

With Florentino Perez now assured of an extended stay as Bernabeu President and Morata edging towards the end of his honeymoon, it appears that a deal to bring Morata to Old Trafford is edging closer.

Even though Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is believed to be keen to hang on to the forward who scored 15 goals in the Spanish top flight last season from just 14 starts, Spanish newspaper Marca are reporting that Real Madrid have given up in their bid to hang on to Morata after he made it clear he wanted to make the move to United.

Old Trafford insider have suggested the club are 'relaxed' over their bid to sign Morata in recent days, with the final stumbling block in the move appearing to be the need to agree a fee for the 24-year-old marksman.

Marca’s contacts at Real Madrid are insisting that Cristiano Ronaldo’s apparent desire to leave the club this summer will not have an impact on Morata’s future, with the expectation that a deal could be set up in the next week now growing.

Jose Mourinho is believed to be keen to have a bulk of his transfer trading finalised before his team head off on their pre-season tour of America and now he might be about to get his wish with one of his chief transfer targets closing in on a move to Manchester.

It may be that Morata will be wearing a United No.9 shirt by the time they play their first game of that tour against LA Galaxy on July 15th.
