Manchester United signing Memphis Depay has claimed he defied his new club by playing for PSV Eindhoven in the closing games of the Dutch season.
The Netherlands international agreed a £25m switch to Old Trafford at the start of May and will link up with Louis van Gaal's side for pre-season training.
Due to his transfer being secured so early, done so to ensure United beat PSG to his signature, Depay still had a couple of games to play for title winners PSV.
The 21-year-old claimed that he was told by both clubs to rest for the final games but was having none of it.
"I really wanted to play and for our coach (Phillip Cocu) it was not a big issue," he told the Dutch daily De Telegraaf.
"But PSV and Manchester United were not pleased. They both suggested that I sit out because of fear over injuries."
Depay wanted to finish the Dutch league as top scorer and wanted his club to achieve a record points tally. He achieved both.
