Mats Hummels alerts Manchester United after saying he wants to play abroad
Manchester United have been alerted to news that their long-time target Mats Hummels has said it would be good for his professional career to move abroad.
United have been keeping track of Hummels' situation for the last year but the player has always remained loyal to Borussia Dortmund.
However, the defender could be tempted to move to the Premier League after he revealed his desire to try his luck outside of the Bundesliga.
The Dortmund captain told Germany's Kicker: "Basically ... I think moving abroad will be good for my professional and personal well being. Eventually, I'd like to leave the Bundesliga.
"I'm being open about this because I'm not a fan of those who claim they are staying but, behind the scenes, have actually secretly agreed a transfer away from their current club."
It is thought Dortmund would seek around £35m for the 26-year-old centre back - a figure which is well within United's reach this summer.
United, however, are unlikely to snap up another target of theirs in Atletico Madrid's Joao Miranda. The Brazilian has a year left on his contract, but told AS: "I am comfortable. I have another year and I am going to endeavour to fulfill my contract."
