Marouane Fellaini has admitted for the first time that he may not accept Manchester United’s offer of a new contract, with his current deal set to expire at the end of this season.

United boss Jose Mourinho has made it clear that he is eager to hang on to his Belgian attacking midfielder and has urged the club to hand him a contract extension that will extend his decade in English football.

Yet the former Everton midfielder has hinted that he is tempted to experience a new challenge away from Old Trafford, as he offered his views to Belgian website HUMO.

“I have something in my head but I cannot tell you,” said Fellaini when asked about his future. “This is my tenth season in England. Except for the very first at Manchester, I only knew good times.

“I'm still here. If Manchester did not want me anymore, they would have said that for a long time. They made a proposal, probably one will follow.

“Whether I will accept it I do not know. You cannot arrange something like that quickly.”

Fellaini has confirmed that he has informed Mourinho of the decision he has made over his future, with a lucrative move to Turkey rumoured to be in the table when he is out of contract.

“We talked about it (with Mourinho),” he added. "The coach is someone who respects the decisions of his players.”
