Manchester United have ‘agreed a deal’ to sign Real Madrid star James Rodriguez, according to widespread reports.

James has been widely expected to move to United after an indifferent three years in the Spanish capital following a £71m move in the summer of 2014.

Now it appears a deal to take the 25-year-old to United is edging closer, with Yahoo Sport reporting the Old Trafford club have already promised the Colombian playmaker that he will wear their No.10 jersey next season.

Yahoo claim James will be handed the No.10 shirt that is set be vacated by current club captain Wayne Rooney in the coming weeks adds an interesting twist to the story, with the level of detail in their story suggesting they may have been briefed on the fine details of negotiations by someone close to the deal.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports are reporting that United are in talks to sign James, after he offered up a lingering wave to Real Madrid fans as he left the field in their final home game of the season against Sevilla last Sunday, sparking suggestions that he will be making a big-money move this summer.

Bookmakers have stopped taking bets on James moving to United, while Colombian radio station Radio Caracol are claiming the James’s move to United will be confirmed once Real Madrid play their final La Liga game of the season on Sunday.

Any move for James would be finalised by super-agent Jorge Mendes, who also lists United manager Jose Mourinho among his current clients.
