Manchester United have offered their supporters free coach travel to Wembley for the FA Cup semi-final against Everton on April 23rd, in a gesture that is being described as a “thank you” for the support they have offered this season.

United’s success in making it through to the Wembley date against the Toffees next Saturday created the prospect of transport chaos, with engineering work ensuring the last train back to Manchester will leave London at 9pm.

With the semi-final kicking-off at 5.15pm, United fans were not going to back it back to Euston station in time for the trip back to Manchester, amid suggestions that they should book an overnight stay in London and return on the Sunday.

That option was also proving problematic, with most hotel rooms either booked or being sold for vast prices as the English capital city is due to host the annual London Marathon on April 24th.

Now United have moved to resolved the dilemma, with their offer to put on free coaches that will bring their 31,000 fans back to Manchester confirmed in this club statement.

“Due to limited transport options after the game, Manchester United have arranged free coach travel for fans wishing to make the round trip from Old Trafford to Wembley Stadium, as a thank you for your continued support throughout the season,” it read.

“Coach travel from Old Trafford to Wembley Stadium for the FA Cup semi-final v Everton free of charge, fully subsidised by Manchester United.”

United will head into the clash with out-of-form Everton as favourites to progress, yet the latest rumours suggest that not even an FA Cup victory will be enough to keep under-fire manager Louis van Gaal in his job for another season.
