Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis has hit out at Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal.

Demichelis, 33, played under the Dutch coach at Bayern Munich but has criticised his style of management. The Argentinian spent more than seven years at the club playing almost 250 games but fell out with Van Gaal before being sold to Malaga.

"I achieved a great deal at Munich," he told German newspaper Bild. "I used my strengths to win a place in the first team.

"I became a fan of the club. I felt like a favourite son. But from the first moment Van Gaal arrived at Bayern the place began to stink."

Van Gaal arrived at Bayern in 2009, winning a Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal Cup double in his first season.

Demichelis started in the Champions League final defeat to Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan but was demoted from the team at the beginning of the next season before being sold.
