Louis van Gaal's pain was Robbie Brady's delight. Under the dark skies over Old Trafford, there was happiness for a player who was let go by Manchester United.

A product of their youth system, he made one first-team appearance, as a substitute in a League Cup tie, before being allowed to leave.

"To come here and play is special but to win is even better," Brady (below) said. "I'm a Norwich player now but it's great to come back to one of the best stadiums in the world and get a win. They are known for rolling teams over in the second half and they've had some unbelievable comebacks.

"But we caught them on the counter-attack and I thought we held them well after they got the goal back."
