Anthony Martial hits out at the media as he clarifies commitment to Manchester United
Anthony Martial has hit out at media reports suggesting he is being edged out of Manchester United, in a Twitter message that will be welcomed by his manager Jose Mourinho.
Various reports have suggested Martial is being edged out of United after he was left out of key matches and given a public dressing down by Mourinho.
Dont listen the papers it's wrong thanks Come on United— Anthony Martial (@AnthonyMartial) February 6, 2017
"He has done enough to be on the bench," said Mourinho last week. "He has to perform better than the others who are competing for the same positions.
"His position is one where we have lots of options. Do you want me to leave (Henrikh) Mkhitaryan out after being man of the match (against Wigan in the FA Cup) and playing so well as he did? I can't.
"The players pick themselves. I am just there to analyse what they do and try to be fair with them. Such a good performance, Mkhitaryan has to play. Simple."
Those comments fuelled the suspicion that Martial was not a part of Mourinho's long term plans, but Martial has offered up a brief comment on his position with a Twitter message that suggests he is fully committed to United.
Martial also posted a message noting the 59th anniversary of the Munich air crash, which claimed the lives of so many members of Matt Busby's great Manchester United team in 1958.
