Harry Kane is the top transfer target for Manchester United this summer as Louis van Gaal lines up £45 million swoop for the Tottenham striker.
That's according to The Daily Mail, which claims Van Gaal has identified a number of players in preparation for United's return to the Champions League - a forward, a right back, a centre-half and a central midfielder.
He already has his winger in Memphis Depay and Kane is the striker Van Gaal wants, despite the 21-year-old signing a five-and-a-half-year contract in February.
The Mail believes United would expect to pay upwards of £45m for the England international.
The Times, meanwhile, suggests United are planning to spend £40 million on Kane but adds that Tottenham will be fiercely resistant to the notion of selling the striker, whom they see as integral to their long-term plans.
Meanwhile, Gareth Bale continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford and The Mirror suggests United will off-load Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria this summer - to make way for the marquee signing of Bale.
United are preparing to ditch Van Persie and last summer's £59.7m British-record signing Di Maria to shave a massive £500,000-a-week off their wage bill, enabling them to land Bale from Real Madrid.
Apparently, the Old Trafford money-men accept they will have to take a hit on Di Maria if they are to offload him to accommodate Bale, with PSG wanting to pay in the region of £45m for the former Real star.
Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne is set to snub United and sign a new contract at St Mary's.
The Sun reports that the England star originally stalled on a £45,000-a-week deal which sparked speculation of a £20m move to Old Trafford.
However, Saints boss Ronald Koeman is quoted as saying: "It has taken a bit longer than we expected but Nathaniel has changed his agent and the feeling is good that we can keep him."
Van Gaal is reportedly set to push through the transfer of Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi.
According to AS, United saw a bid rejected for the Argentine star in January but the player is preparing himself for a move this summer.
United are also supposedly leading the race for Torino captain Kamil Glik.
The Red Devils have highlighted the Polish skipper as a top target, according to Tuttosport.
Tottenham are also apparently interested, but United believe the lure of Champions League football makes them favourites.
