Manchester United players star in another cringeworthy Hollywood movie crossover
Those Manchester United fans hoping for a new era at Old Trafford following the appointment of Jose Mourinho will be disappointed that one off-field duty from Louis van Gaal's reign has been continued.
In the dying weeks of the Dutchman's time in charge, Wayne Rooney appeared in a bizarre video promoting the summer blockbuster X-Men Apocalypse. You can't blame the striker for the film's tepid reviews thereafter but the England captain certainly didn't get much critical acclaim for his acting in the crossover trailer.
Nonetheless, Manchester United's commercial partnership with 20th Century Fox means that these videos will likely become the norm whenever a big budget film is being released. Rooney's latest acting turn comes in a promotion for the upcoming Independence Day sequel. The attacker joins forces with team-mates Daley Blind, Chris Smalling, Ashley Young and Juan Mata - as well as with thespian Jeff Goldblum - in order to save the world.
We will let you judge for yourself as to whether this effort is any better than the X-Men debacle.
