In a clear indication of his place in the Liverpool hierarchy, manager Jurgen Klopp left Mario Balotelli at home when the first team squad jetted off to America for a pre-season tour.

While the team's stars enjoy sun-soaked Californian training sessions to prepare for the new season, the Italian striker has been left to play with the kids.

Balotelli, who is only 24 himself, is currently training with the Liverpool reserve team as the Anfield club try to offload him to a new team.

As yet, the club haven't found any takers but if this Instagram photo is anything to go by, the mercurial forward is looking to change the perception people have of him.

Known to be moody and uncommunicative on occasion, Balotelli looks the picture of the perfect team-mate here as he beams alongside his young colleagues.

While it is pointless to read too much into one photo, it is still good to see that the striker seems to be embracing his current situation as he looks to get his career back on track. The caption on the photo may point to a new focused attitude as Balotelli looks to land a new club, only time will tell.
