WATCH: Liverpool's Adam Lallana to escape first-team punishment after being sent off for grabbing an opponent by the neck last night
Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana will not be banned from any first team action after he was sent off in an under-23 game last night.
The England international clashed with 19-year-old Spurs midfielder George Marsh and was given a straight red card for grabbing the youngster by the neck.
Any punishment for the infraction will be confined to the under-23 competition meaning that the former Southampton star will remain available to Jurgen Klopp.
He is expected to be handed a three game under-23s ban for violent conduct. It could hamper his chances of working his way back to fitness and into Liverpool's first team plans.
Liverpool U23 manager Neil Critchley said: "I have never seen Adam react like that.
"I'd like to see the incident again. It was ironic as we were just about to bring Liam Millar on. He was actually coming off."
Lallana has made just one start for Liverpool this season as a result of a thigh injury he suffered in pre-season.
