Amid the euphoria of a glorious Champions League victory over Paris St-Germain, defender Virgil van Dijk warned that Liverpool must stay humble if they are to achieve their goals this season.
For all the progress made under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have not won a trophy and that has to be the overriding objective. As impressive as the win over PSG was it was just a small step on a far longer and difficult journey.
"The first game in the group stages was always important and we won it against a very good side," said Van Dijk, who has made a huge difference tsince joining for £75m in January.
"We want to compete for every competition like we did last year, and we wanted to start well. We've had a good start to the season, nothing has been won yet, we need to show it every week. Everyone is excited and feeling good, everyone wanted to be part of this. We know the season is very long, we have four competitions to play in, and we want to win everything.
