'Maybe he will go to Liverpool' - Lyon chairman offers a fresh hint over Nabil Fekir's future
Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has given a strong hint that he expects Liverpool to return with a fresh offer to sign his France midfielder Nabil Fekir, after their initial efforts to sign the player collapsed last month.
Fekir had a medical with Liverpool ahead of a move to Anfield and images were leaked online that appeared to show him posing in Reds colours ahead of the expected confirmation of the transfer.
Yet a reported complicated with his medical stalled the deal and Lyon eventually confirmed that they had cut off negotiations with Liverpool and would look to keep the player for next season.
Now Aulas has shifted his position, as he suggested in an interview with le10sport that Fekir could still end up at Liverpool as he suggested he was expecting a fresh approach from the Merseyside club.
"It seems to me that Liverpool could come back in," stated Aulas. "That's what I've read in the press, but I've not been told anything.
"His transfer failed in June, but he hasn't been affected by it. He is focused on the World Cup, and he still has his heart in Lyon.
"Nabil is much closer to Lyon today than he was when we talked to Liverpool. Maybe he will go to Liverpool, or another club, but if he stays at Lyon, it will be a great year for him and for us."
Liverpool have already signed Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri this summer, with a move for Fekir potentially one of the final pieces in the jigsaw being assembled by boss Jurgen Klopp.
