There are reports this morning that Liverpool are preparing a £26.5m bid for Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes.

According to The Sun, Roma are willing to sell the Argentine, who has fallen down the pecking order this season and has made just six Serie A starts.

Paredes operates as a holding midfielder, and would provide the much-maligned Reds back four with more protection than it is currently getting.

Mamadou Sakho meanwhile has broken his silence on his falling out with Jurgen Klopp after the manager disciplined him from breaching club rules in the summer.

Sakho was sent home from the club’s pre-season camp in America after turning up late for a team meeting and missing a training session.

At that point he had only just returned from a controversial doping ban that was later overturned.

Sakho, who is expected to leave Anfield this month, told Canal Football Club in France: “It is true that I turned up late. There was a rule that I should have observed. I do not at all see myself as above the rules, I respect everyone.

“I paid my fine, I was sanctioned, I apologised to my team-mates and my manager. Aside from that… I do not want to go into the controversies.

“Since I started this incredible adventure abroad, in terms of football but also in terms of my family, because when I see my children speaking English I think it is a glorious thing that I have been able to give them. I think I have a few more wonderful years to experience abroad first. And PSG, why not, but afterwards.

“I think Marseille have a very good team. Bafé (Gomis) and Pat (Evra) are friends of mine. But my answer to this might remind certain people about a song. When there is PSG, Sakho is with them.”
