Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp faces a nervous wait to discover if Adam Lallana is fit to face his former club Southampton on Saturday after the winger was injured during England’s game with Spain.

Lallana has been in fine form recently as Liverpool have become arguably the most entertaining side in the Premier League, helping to form a potent attacking unit alongside Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.

And Lallana had taken that form into the international arena, with his superb through-ball setting up Jamie Vardy, with the Leicester striker brought down for a penalty by Pep Reina that Lallana himself converted.

But there was concern when Lallana went down under a challenge from Thiago Alcantara and was unable to continue. The 28 year old was replaced by Theo Walcott and went straight down the tunnel with a member of the England medical staff.

Klopp will be concerned if the injury does prove to be serious enough to force Lallana to miss out on a return to his former club, with the winger starting 10 of Liverpool’s 11 Premier League games so far this season, scoring three times.

But Lallana’s injury could be good news for his England team-mate Daniel Sturridge. The striker started in Lallana’s place against Manchester United and could do so again if Klopp is forced to shuffle his pack.
