Liverpool are leading the chase for Stoke winger Xherdan Shaqiri, who is expected to leave the relegated Premier League club.

Shaqiri is emerging as a target for Liverpool, Everton and Leicester and it is understood he will cost more than the reported £12 million release clause.

The Switzerland international has two years left on his deal but it is seems inevitable that he will be departing this summer, following the club's drop into the Championship. It is believed Shaqiri does have a relegation release clause and though the exact figure is unknown, Stoke are set to receive offers this month.

Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager, knows Shaqiri from his time in the Bundesliga and is considering a bid as he looks to strengthen his squad.

Leicester and Everton have also registered an interest in the £12m signing, who was brought in by Mark Hughes from Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, Leicester have triggered Jonny Evans' £3million release clause and are close to signing the defender from West Brom.
