Cork teenager Caoimhin Kelleher has signed a new contract with Liverpool.

The 19-year-old goalkeeper has moved up the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp and played for the first team on the pre-season tour in America. He is third choice behind record buy Alisson and Simon Mignolet but has penned what Liverpool described as a "long deal" to commit his future to the club.

"Once the deal came in then it was an easy decision," said Kelleher.

Elsewhere, Ireland striker Jon Walters has completed a return to his former club Ipswich on a loan deal.

Walters was frustrated by a lack of opportunities at Burnley and has dropped down to Championship level until January.

West Ham youngster Josh Cullen - an Irish U-21 international and good friend of his colleague Declan Rice - has joined League One outfit Charlton on loan for the rest of the season.

Cavan man Cillian Sheridan is set to go on his travels again after being told he is surplus to requirements by Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok and the expectation is that the 29-year-old will move to Russia.

Meanwhile, Preston boss Alex Neil says that Seán Maguire is back running as he continues his comeback from another hamstring injury but there is no time-frame yet on when he might return to action.
