Fresh rumours of a Liverpool bid for Thomas Lemar as he is missing from the Monaco squad once again
Thomas Lemar has been left out of the Monaco side once again, as he continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool in this month’s transfer window.
Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim rested a host of star names from his side for last Wednesday’s cup game against Lyon, with Lemar among those missing from that game.
He was expected to return for the crucial Ligue 1 game against Marseille on Sunday, but he was absent from the squad list released by Monaco, with club officials claiming he has a thigh problem.
Lemar turned down a move to Arsenal on transfer deadline day in August after Monaco agreed a reported £90m fee with the north London club that would have triggered Alexis Sanchez’s move to Manchester City.
Yet it appears that Arsenal are not interested in reviving their interest in Lemar now, with Liverpool fans hoping that will open the door for Anfield chiefs to make a renewed bid for the French international as they look to spend some of the £142m fee their received from the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.
A late Liverpool bid for Lemar in this transfer window would be something of a surprise after Reds boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed he did not expect to make any more signings in this transfer window on Friday.
“It’s not really likely,” said Klopp, when he was quizzed about any potential arrivals at Liverpool ahead of Wednesday’s transfer deadline. “I don’t think a lot of things will happen in the next few days, but if it does I’ll call you (the media) immediately, of course.
“What I don’t like about the January transfer window, is that very often it feels like the season is over and we didn’t use players in the first half of the season so why do you need them in the second part? We have to plan a full year and that’s what we did.”
