Liverpool set for more heartache as rivals Manchester United look set to ambush deal for Dutch winger
Liverpool look set to FAIL in their late bid to hijack Memphis Depay’s summer move to Manchester United, after PSV Eindhoven chiefs confirmed their Dutch international is wanted by the Old Trafford club.
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers had identified Depay as the attacking star who could transform his blunt forward line, as he looks to be given one last chance to splash the cash in the transfer market by Liverpool’s owners.
Rodgers is under pressure to get it right this time after his purchases last summer failed to produce the goods, yet he has already been knocked back by PSV Eindhoven star Depay.
Yet it seems that United's biggest rivals to sign Depay is French side Paris Saint-Germain, after PSV Eindhoven technical director Marcel Brands confirmed the two clubs have bid for the winger.
"Paris Saint-Germain had an interest in Memphis in the winter," he said. "Now three clubs have come forward, including PSG and Manchester United."
Depay ended his PSV career on a spectacular note on Saturday night as he scored a stunning free-kick in a victory that ensured his side won their first Dutch title in six years.
