Liverpool and Klopp a 'good fit', insists German manager Loew

Liverpool are the ideal club for Jurgen Klopp to manage after leaving Borussia Dortmund, according to Joachim Loew, the German national team manager.

Loew was full of praise for Klopp's work in Dortmund and the World Cup-winning coach feels that his compatriot will bring similar success to Liverpool.

Given that Klopp, 48, led Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles, a German cup and a Champions League final before the team lost several of their best players to Bayern Munich, Liverpool supporters will be excited by Loew's comments.

Negotiations between Klopp and the Merseyside club are understood to be progressing well and he should be installed at Anfield in the next 48 hours. Loew argued there were distinct similarities between Dortmund and Liverpool and suggested Klopp could restore the club to the top of English football.

"I think there are strong parallels between Dortmund and Liverpool with the passion and size of their support," Loew said in Dublin last night. "I think it is a good fit. I'm not party to the negotiations between Liverpool and Mr Klopp, so I don't know how they are progressing, but if an agreement can be reached, it will be good for both. Mr Klopp, if you look back, was fantastically successful, exceptionally successful at Dortmund. He unleashed a lot of emotion in Dortmund supporters."

Asked whether he would be keen to follow Klopp to the Premier League, Loew replied: "I have a contract with the German Football Federation until 2018 and I'm not thinking about anything beyond that at the moment." (© Daily Telegraph, London)
