Liverpool agree to sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in blockbuster €160m deal
Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho is expected to be announced as a Barcelona player today in a deal worth €160m, according to reports.
The Daily Telegraph are reporting that the move will be confirmed later today, in what would be one of the world's most expensive ever transfers.
Barcelona currently lead La Liga by nine points, and will take on Chelsea in the Champions League last 16 next month. However, Coutinho will be cup-tied in Europe having already represented Liverpool in the competition.
There had been speculation that the Reds would look to delay Coutinho's move until the summer, but the Brazilian was keen to make the switch this month.
Coutinho was left out of the Liverpool squad for the last two matches, away to Burnley in the league and home to Everton in the FA Cup last night. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said that Coutinho's absence was due to injury, but rumours persisted that the Brazil international was set to leave Anfield imminently.
The Liverpool squad flew out to Dubai this morning for a warm-weather training camp, but Coutinho wasn't in the traveling party.
Coutinho could be in attendance at the Nou Camp tomorrow when Barcelona take on Levante in the league.
