Celtic have confirmed that Beram Kayal will miss the rest of the season after the midfielder underwent ankle surgery.
Manager Neil Lennon initially thought that the Israel international would be out only for a few weeks after he was injured in a challenge with Rangers midfielder Lee McCulloch during the Bhoys' Old Firm win on December 28.
However, further scans showed the need for surgery to repair cartilage and ligament damage and Celtic's medical staff will now concentrate their efforts on making sure Kayal is fit for pre-season.
Kayal has been one of Celtic's most impressive performers since joining them from Maccabi Haifa in the summer of 2010.
There was better news on the injury front for Lennon when Joe Ledley and Gary Hooper were both declared fit for the Scottish Premier League clash with Dundee United on Saturday.
