Juventus target Robbie
Italian giants line up January swoop
ROBBIE KEANE has emerged as a surprise January transfer window target for Serie A giants Juventus.
The Irish skipper is suffering a miserable time on the bench with Spurs, and reports in Italy say that he is being considered as a back-up option if Juve boss Luigi Delneri fails to secure two preferred choices.
Delneri is looking to bolster his forward department, and has set his sights on Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko and Fiorentina's Alberto Gilardino.
However, Dzeko is a target for Manchester City, while Gilardino has said he wants to see out his contract with his current employers.
Therefore, Keane has popped up on the radar as an alternative, with Spurs open to either permanent or loan offers.
Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni, who still maintains close links with Juventus, has said that he wouldn't hesitate to recommend his star players to Italian clubs.
Keane spent time with Inter Milan in 2000/01 before he was shown the door -- by current Irish assistant manager Marco Tardelli.
He has fallen down the pecking order with Spurs, and manager Harry Redknapp admitted last week that the star was downbeat after the arrival of Rafael van der Vaart reduced his opportunities further.
Meanwhile, reports in the UK yesterday claimed that Shay Given had been offered to Manchester United as a potential makeweight in the aborted deal to bring Wayne Rooney to Manchester City.
The Donegal man is stuck behind Joe Hart at Eastlands and would be keen to move in January if a suitable opportunity arose, but City authorities want two top-class keepers at the club.
