Jose Mourinho is keen to be reunited with Chelsea defender David Luiz at Old Trafford and a move could happen as early as January, according to reports.

Mourinho worked with Luiz during the first season of his second spell at Chelsea in 2013/14, but sanctioned a £50m transfer that saw the Brazilian join PSG at the end of the campaign.

Luiz's deadline day return to Stamford Bridge last August was one of the surprises of the transfer window, but the move paid off handsomely as Chelsea's impressive defence helped Antonio Conte win the Premier League title during his first season in charge.

However, relations appeared to have soured between Luiz and his manager, with Conte leaving his star defender out of the matchday squad for the recent visit of Man United.

The Star is reporting that Mourinho is looking to take advantage of this discord and bolster his defence, with the Red Devils boss keen to launch a big bid for the Brazilian once the January transfer window opens.

The newspaper says that Luiz is very unhappy with how he has been treated by his manager in recent weeks and is becoming increasingly receptive to a change of scenery.
